Chai tea- A refreshing drink with milk and spices

Serves 2 cups

Ingredients-

1.5 cups water
2 cloves
2 cm piece of cinnamon
2 pods of cardamom, opened slightly
2 cm piece of fresh ginger, chopped fine

1 tsp black tea powder
1/2 cup milk
1.5 to 2 tsp sugar, organic brown sugar or Sucanat or other sugar

Method of preparation-

1.Boil the water with all the spices for 2 to 3 minutes.

2.Add the tea  powders and simmer for 1 to 2 minutes.

3.Add sweetener and stir well.

4.Add the milk and heat until hot but not boiling. 

5. Cover and let sit for 1 min. Colour and taste of the tea will become stronger. Filter and serve hot.

Note:

You may add 1 to 2 black peppers additionally for Kapha balancing.

You may change the amounts of milk and sugar according to taste and dosha. (Increased amounts of milk and sugar can disturb Kapha.)

If you use caffeinated tea, the cardamom will help neutralize the effects of the caffeine.
